Looking for the best barbecue joints to hit while you’re in East Texas? Make a delicious weekend out of these awesome locations.
Stanley’s Famous Barbecue Pit
With a claim to fame like winning “Best Pork Rib” in the First Texas Monthly BBQ Festival, Stanley’s is a can’t-miss for any foodie. They proudly feature a special 11-spice rub and sweet glaze, and the owners regularly master new skills and come up with fresh ideas to improve their menu.
Joseph’s Riverport Bar-B-Cue
Owner Stephen Joseph is a favorite of the Riverport community. Despite the town’s small population, there’s always a line out the door of Joseph’s. Guests can order a wide selection of meats by the pound, or opt for one of many house specials, like the heavily-loaded “swamp fries.”
There’s lots of “Bodacious Bar-B-Qs” in East Texas, but none are quite like the original location in Longview. Their famous brisket is smoked for anywhere from 24 to 26 hours, and all of their beef is hormone-free and purchased from Central Texas farms. Plus, the current pitmaster has a culinary degree from Kilgore College and has participated in BBQ festivals all over the state.
Evie Mae’s Pit Barbeque
Evie Mae’s began simply; with a huge smoker hitched to a pickup truck. The family business quickly grew from a DIY parking lot setup to a beloved food truck, and eventually to a successful brick-and-mortar location in Wolfforth, Texas. Evie Mae’s is unique among BBQ restaurants since everything on the menu is gluten-free — with the exception of sandwich buns and white bread — without sacrificing an ounce of flavor.
